Students have faced a number of significant challenges over the past few years. Government under-funding of our post-secondary institutions resulted in massive layoffs of faculty members and student support staff, and the closure of the Day Care Centre. In three years tuition fees increased to over \$72 per credit at Northwest Community College. And while NWCC students were able to successfully lobby the College to freeze tuition fees for the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 years, tuition fees are now increasing again by up to 2% per year.
We need your voices, your energy and your ideas in the coming year to effect the changes students and young people of the Northwest need. You can get involved by running in elections in the fall, volunteering on your campus to help host events, or just coming to events hosted by your Students’ Union. By working together with other students, we can let the provincial and federal governments know that we have the right to an affordable, high quality post-secondary education; and we want it in our communities!
In Solidarity,
Northwest Community College Students' Union
